Every Cleary home is built to a 20% BETTER THAN CODE specification. You will find more energy efficient materials and building methods in comparison to homes built to the current Ontario Building Code standard, an EnergyStar rating or the Savings by Design Program.
With climate change becoming one of the most important world issues, we all need to do our part to keep our carbon footprint to a minimum. Cleary Homes for their part has committed to building a more energy efficient home. They are currently building far beyond Canada’s 2030 greenhouse gas reduction target of 30%, with a 55% reduction.
We are not just claiming that Cleary Homes is ‘BETTER ‘. They have independent third party validation which tests and confirms that Cleary Homes complies with a 20% BETTER THAN CODE standard in each and every home that they build. This is substantially Better than the current Ontario Building Code and Better than both the EnergyStar and Savings By Design programs.

Here is what is included in the program:
1. HIGH PERFORMANCE, WEATHER TIGHT HOUSE ENVELOPE:
1.1. Independent third party performance based energy rating and testing.
1.2. Testing for air leakage.
1.3 Increased home durability with EXCEL™ structurally insulated sheathing, complete with exterior air barrier system including fl ashing windows.
1.4.Air barrier surrounding insulation on all sides.
1.5. Air seal all HVAC, exhaust fan housings, pot lights and penetrations.
1.6 Upgraded Finish-Ready basements with Rockwool ™ Comfortboard 80 that reduces moisture and dampness.
1.7 High Performance Windows with a low Solar Heat Gain provide passive cooling that reduces heat gain in the summer and provides more comfort in the winter.
2. HIGH PERFORMANCE HVAC:
2.1 High efficiency, right sized, two-stage furnace that ensures maximum air distribution while using 50% less electricity with an ECM blower.
2.2 Programmable web based thermostat.
2.3 High efficiency condensing hot water heater (rental).
2.4 Drain water heat recovery system that extracts heat from showers to preheat hot water.
3. INDOOR AIR QUALITY:
3.1 Minimum energy-recovery of 75% on whole house ventilation.
3.2 Panasonic’s EcoVent™ High Static bathroom fans deliver strong energy saving performance for maximum air quality.
3.3. Flow rate will be third party verified.
3.4. 4” pleated MERV 12 (high efficiency) furnace filter for maximum air filtration.
3.5 Right sized 15 SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating) air conditioner provides 23% higher energy efficiency than the standard (optional).
3.6. Contaminant control during construction.
3.7 Ventilation system flush provided 48 hours prior to occupancy, to clear any lingering contaminants.
4. REDUCE WATER USAGE:
4.1. All toilets will be high efficiency, ultra-low water consumption styles with a maximum 4.85 LPF.
4.2 Greywater rough-in for optional greywater system can reduce water consumption by 25%. The drain water from
2 showers can provide up to 30 toilet flushes per day.
5. EFFICIENT ELECTRICAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT:
5.1. All lighting will be supplied by either energy efficient compact fluorescent lamps or LED bulbs.
5.2. EXCEL™ exterior sheathing made from 98% recycled content.
